The mission of Aiken Senior Life Service’s Community Garden is to serve our seniors and the greater community by stewarding a space for our members and volunteers to grow and harvest organic produce, as well as educate people of all ages about the benefits of sustainable and eco-friendly gardening.

DON'T MISS THE HARVEST OF FUN AT AIKEN SENIOR LIFE SERVICES' FIRST-EVER GARDEN PARTY FUNDRAISER

JUNE 13, 2024 ⁕ 6:00 - 8:00 PM!

Attending this feel-good fundraiser lets you enjoy a spring night filled with music, community, signature cocktails from The Sippin' Palmetto Mobile Bar, & hors d'oeuvres prepared fresh from garden produce! 

ASLS hopes to raise $5000 using proceeds from ticket sales in tandem with giving efforts from the community. This money will go toward sustaining ASLS's Grateful Garden, a community garden that provides fresh produce and eco-friendly gardening education to seniors in the area.

GARDEN  VOLUNTEER WORKDAYS
EVERY TUESDAY • 10 AM - 12 PM
Become an active part in our community by volunteering! Learn how to keep our garden bountiful and beautiful through the guidance of the Aiken Master Gardeners. Volunteers will be educated on procedures set in place for the garden's success as they participate in routine garden maintenance. Sign up below to get started!

SHORT TERM NEEDS FOR THE GARDEN:

  • 40 lbs of Garden Food Safe Diatomaceous Earth

  • 12 lbs of Dr. Earth Tomato & Vegetable Fertilize

  • Metal Rakes

  • Pitch Forks

  • 10 x 20 Fabric 40% Ag Shade Cloths

  • Step Stools

  • Metal Fence stake t-posts

  • 4 x 16 Wire Cattle Panels

  • 160 lbs of Dolomitic Slow release Garden Lime

  • Extra Long Zip Ties 

  • Loppers/pruners

  • An awning for the dry erase board

  • Cinder Blocks for the rain barrel

  • Gutter system

LONG TERM NEEDS FOR THE GARDEN: 

  • Expansion of the fenced-in area in order to include more beds and utilize additional planting techniques

  • The addition of picnic tables for community members to enjoy the garden and take outdoor classes

  • The incorporation of a greenhouse to help grow plants during the colder months

  • A composting system to recycle waste
